Last Saturday I traveled 50 miles to Woodstock, IL to see if Woodstock Willie (the ground hog) saw his shadow. He did not see it, so there is only 6 more weeks of winter!  About a thousand people turned out to learn what Woodstock Willie would predict.

Since the movie Ground Hog Day was filmed there 20 years ago, the city has created a 5 day event to celebrate the movie. At various locations around the town square there are plaques that memorialize specific scenes from the movie.  I saw a number of people taking pictures at the plaques for  "Bill Murray's Puddle" and "Ned's Corner".  The complete walking tour stops at 14 different locations.

Woodstock's town square is Americana at it's best. There are no large box or chain stores on the square.  Just "mom and pop" businesses trying to earn a living.  The best part of the day was eating breakfast at a local diner on the square........we sat at the counter, right across from the cook.............it doesn't get any more Americana than that!
