Get a Guarantee!

Posted by Michael Kett on Thursday, March 21, 2013, In : entertainment

Here is the biggest tip when hiring entertainment for a corporate event, private party, birthday, anniversary etc…………………………….ask the entertainer if they offer a guarantee.

A guarantee will significantly reduce your stress and worry. You’d be surprised how many entertainers don’t offer one.  If they don’t offer one, look for an entertainer that does.  I’ve offered a guarantee for 15 years that if the client or any of their guests weren’t thrilled with my se...

Wedding Cocktail Hour Entertainment

Posted by Michael Kett on Monday, March 18, 2013, In : lip prints

Type of entertainment is a great ice breaker and gets people socializing.  Of course there is the standard type of entertainment that everyone has seen before, namely magicians and caricature artists.  That is fun entertainment but the emphasis is on the performer and not the guest.

Pucker up octopus!

Posted by Michael Kett on Thursday, March 7, 2013, In : lip prints

The dictionary defines “kiss” as “to touch or caress with the lips as an expression of affection, greeting, respect, or amorousness.” Yes, I know. That definition is…stale, isn’t it? The world would be such a dreadful place if that definition summed up our feelings on kissing. Luckily, that is not the case. If, however, you are unimpressed by lip locking, this story may change your opinion.  Scientists are in the process of unveiling an octopus that…kisses.

Lip Print Shapes

Posted by Michael Kett on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, In : lip prints
Lip prints come in many sizes and shapes. Take a moment and create your lip print on a piece of paper. Is your lip print round or oval or  is it shaped like a diamond, triangle, or rectangle? Therse are the most common lip print shapes.

The round or oval shape is the harmony lip print.  These people like everyone to get along.  They don't care for conflict or confrontation and are known for giving others a pat on the back for doing a good job.

The diamond shape print indicates a successful pers...

Ice Breakers

Posted by Michael Kett on Friday, March 1, 2013, In : party ideas
Have you ever attended an event where everyone stands around and doesn't interact? Well, here a few ideas that will help break the ice at the next event you plan....

  1. M & M Fun: pass around a large bowl of M & M's and ask everyone to take as many as they want but not to eat them yet. Once everyone has their M & M's, inform them that for every candy they took, they have to tell the group something about themselves.  The more M & M's a guest takes, the more fun.
  2. The Lineup: ask your guests to line...

The History of Lipstick

Posted by Michael Kett on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, In : lip prints
Lipstick is an essential for most women. It comes in a rainbow of shades and colors. Lip color has been around for over 5,000 years. Early lipstick was created by crushing semi-precious stones and applying them to the lips. Ancient Egyptian women used iodine to color their lips a bluish purple with severe health consequences.

In 1770 the British government passed a law that stated a marriage should be annulled if the  woman wore cosmetics before her wedding day.  In the 1800's wearing red lip...

Breaking the kissing record

Posted by Michael Kett on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, In : lip prints

It is a busy week for lips; they work overtime this time of the year.  Valentine’s Day is this Thursday, and couples all across the nation will go out to eat and enjoy a nice night on the town.  Well – maybe not that nice; oftentimes Cupid’s holiday brings out the worst in people.  However, we cannot say the same of nine Thai couples.

In the article, “9 Thai couples lock lips for ‘kiss in’ to break 50-hour world record,” Agence France-Presse of The Raw Story writes, “Nine T...

What Does Your Valentine's Lip Print Reveal?

Posted by Michael Kett on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, In : lip prints

With Valentine’s Day approaching, why not analyze your date’s lip print to glean some insights into their personality? Lip prints can reveal a great deal about a person, such as their work ethic, stress and energy levels, food preferences, social interaction skills, and creativity.

With the Missouri lip print there isn’t any space between the upper and lower lip prints.  These people can be stubborn and extremely cautious. If the upper lip print is markedly thinner than the lower li...

Ground Hog Day 20th Anniversary

Posted by Michael Kett on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, In : Cool stuff
Last Saturday I traveled 50 miles to Woodstock, IL to see if Woodstock Willie (the ground hog) saw his shadow. He did not see it, so there is only 6 more weeks of winter!  About a thousand people turned out to learn what Woodstock Willie would predict.

Since the movie Ground Hog Day was filmed there 20 years ago, the city has created a 5 day event to celebrate the movie. At various locations around the town square there are plaques that memorialize specific scenes from the movie.  I saw a numb...

Amazing and Inspirational

Posted by Michael Kett on Thursday, January 31, 2013, In : Cool stuff
I attended a magic convention this past weekend.  I've been attending this convention with my best friend since 1994.  During those years I've seen a lot of tremendous magic.  But this year I witness something beyond magic.  Mahdi Gilbert is a young man from Canada. Yes, he is a magician but his ability transcends magic to true inspiration.  Mahdi has significant physical challenges.  He was born with severe birth defects, including not having any hands.

Mahdi performed for 500 magicians last ...

Hiring the best entertainer - Part 3

Posted by Michael Kett on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, In : entertainment
Here are the last few suggestions to hiring a great entertainer for your event:

6) What do you charge? This is a pretty obvious one. It may be the first thing you ask a prospective
entertainer. Be certain to find out if that is the total fee! Some entertainers charge mileage, hotel
room, meals and more which is fine, just so long as you know about it in advance and are prepared for
it. Nothing will make your accounting department angrier than getting a bill for an expense account
they knew nothing...

How to hire the best entertainer - Part 2

Posted by Michael Kett on Thursday, January 24, 2013, In : entertainment
Three more considerations when hiring an entertainer...

4) What type of set-up is needed?  A very common problem is to have a stage on one side of the room, the audience on the other and a large dance floor separating the two. This separation will kill a show! There will be no interaction possible and the entertainer will have to come down from the stage to relate with the audience. This will severely hurt
timing as well as sight lines for those in the back. A great idea is to have the event st...

How to hire the best entertainer - Part 1

Posted by Michael Kett on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, In : entertainment
Here are some basic but important tips to consider when hiring an entertainer for a corporate or private party:

1) Begin with someone you have already seen or someone that has been recommended to you. This is
your number one resource by far! If you haven’t personally seen an entertainer that meets your needs,
ask your friends, colleagues and family. It is much better to get someone you can trust right from the
start.
2) Ask for references and call them! If the performer wasn’t personally recom...

Back from Florida

Posted by Michael Kett on Friday, January 18, 2013, In : lip prints
I just returned from speaking about geriatric rehab to physical and occupational therapists in Georgia and Florida. The programs went well but the highlight for me was the 75 degree temperature compared to the 20 degree weather I left in Chicago. I always tell my seminar participants about my background and interests (including my lip print reading, flea circus and mind reading shows).  Upon request I did 5 lip print readings during lunch!  Here is a link to a quick lip print reading for Mick...

More to me than meets the lips: a brief autobiography

Posted by Michael Kett on Monday, January 14, 2013, In : lip prints

As Ray Charles put it, Georgia on my mind.  Florida too.  The American road is calling my name and I’m answering its siren-like call.  I’m leaving tomorrow and will be gone for a week, running seminars for therapists.  I’ve been a physical therapist for more than 30 years.  I travel nationwide on a month by month basis to present one day seminars to therapists on Geriatric Rehab.

I’ve also been an entertainer for more than 20 years.  Initially, I was a magician, but over the pa...

What hand makes your lips?

Posted by Michael Kett on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, In : lip prints

How many of your fondest memories and proudest triumphs are centered on the lips – either yours or someone else’s?  I was recently speaking to a writer friend of mine who told me he vividly remembers every girl he has ever kissed.  Not every time, mind you, but the first time.  No matter the context, he told me, it was always magical.  With one girl in particular, he remembered the way the dim bar lighting seemed to illuminate her lips while she was throwing darts.  I just can’t shake...
